On Edward Albee

“From the very beginning of his career Albee has made it very clear that he has no intention of tying everything up for the audience. He wants them to have something to think about ”when they go out of the theater”…as with all of his following plays, Albee is concerned with the inadequacy of the human heart” (Stenz 12).

“Albee's real achievement lies in his control of and sensitivity to language” (Bigsby 346). 

Considering Albee anything less than a playwright genuis would be an insult to him. Albee did what very few others before him and since him have done. He commented on American society through his characters and their dialogue and left nothing for chance. While many see Albee's plays as negative or tiresome, they are anything but. Albee's plays are real and through them, we the readers, are able to understand society as he saw it.
